Below is a list of some of my recent research projects. Some highlights of my work include machine learning, geostatisitcs and qualitative analysis. R, Python and ArcGIS are mainly used in most of these projects. Relevant plots and maps are included in corresponding papers. Some of these projects, including R codes and reports, are accessible from Github. Beyond these projects, I also keep updating some of my R codes of daily assignments at RCodeDemo.
As part of the Index Insurance Project at International Research Institute for Climate and Society, this paper visualized and analyzed Ethiopia rainfall distribution (e.g., time-space clustering pattern, spatial autocorrelation) and its relationship with elevation using R, ArcGIS, and SatScan.
I am responsible for designing and constructing a Stata dataset from an SSO survey, visualizing the results on maps, and conducting a factor analysis on physical and social disorder indicators. Recent visualization for social and physical disorder indicators could be accessed from Amsterdam Avenue Disorder Indicator Explorer.
In order to merge hundreds of data sources with different specifications of country names, I developed an R script to do the fuzzy match for the different names and also created a reference glossary for different versions of one country name to facilitate the merge.
Using a comprehensive dataset, i.e. the EMI One Million Interview Dataset, which contained the interests, attitudes, and behaviors of listeners around the world, we developed a diverse classification algorithm to predict if a listener's response to a new song.
I was responsible for drafting eight reports for eight ethnic groups in corresponding concentrated neighborhoods in NYC. Every report included the demographic analysis using the 2000 and 2010 Census data, cultural and political history, and existing social problems in each neighborhood. I also conducted several field studies in each community by talking with local residents, taking pictures, and experiencing local culture. The maps visualizing the distribution of density for each group and the photos taken during the field study will be accessible soon.
