Visualization

Below is a list of some recent interesting interactive visualizations that I've worked on. I used D3.js, Leaflet.js, and Shiny App across all these projects. Some of relevant codes are accessible at Github.

• Political Sentiment Visualization Mengying Li, Rongyao Huang, Darrick Leow, and Yuqi Bi
  By utilizing the 2012 US federal government daily media releases provided by Voxgov, which contained 200,539 text files in JSON format, we categorized all the documents into 10 topics using Structural Topic Modeling and conducted sentiment analysis across stakeholders within each topic. We used D3.js, Shiny app and ArcGIS for both interactive and static visualization to better deliver our results.

• McGraw-Hill Internship Final Presentation for Steven Laster Mengying Li
  This is the shiny app that I developed during my summer internship at McGraw-Hill Education, to show the results from classification models to predict whether a student would pass/fail using Engrade Data, when I was doing a summer internship at McGraw-Hill Education in 2014. I gave a presentation to our Chief Digital Officer, Steven Laster, using this visualization. Click on "Feature Selection" and "About" tabs for more background graphics.

• Match Point: Left or Right? Mengying Li
  In this visualization, I used R to webscrape basic information about tennis players, such as handedness and when they turned pro, from ATP Single Ranking . Then I ranked all the left-handed and right-handed players based on their frequency of participation in the US Open and visualized the results of the games played between them using D3.js

• Chinese Restaurants in the City of New York Mengying Li
  In this work, I first used QGIS to geocode all the locations of Chinese restaurants in NYC. I got the demographic information for each NYC neighborhood from American Community Survey and visualized the distribution of both Chinese restaurants and the percentage of Chinese people in the total population for each neighborhood using Leaflet.js. We found that the largest densities of Chinese restaurants are in Chinatown, Flushing and Sunset Park West, which are also home to the greatest concentrations of Chinese people.

• 2009 US Open Ring Network Mengying Li
  In this visualization using D3plus, I presented the story of how Del Potro, a dark horse, defeated all the more experienced opponents.
